EXPERIENCED SAFETY LEADERSHIP

CIM’s safety program is led by Safety Director Tracy Haus, who brings more than 25 years of safety leadership, training, and program-development experience to our organization.

Tracy’s background includes OSHA 500 instruction, CPR/First Aid, State Fire and Aerial Platform instruction, accredited safety instruction for mechanical and plumbing licensing, and more than a decade of national industry safety leadership through the Mechanical Contractors Association of America’s National Safety & Health Committee.

Most importantly, our safety leadership is actively involved in the work. Tracy spends a significant amount of his time in the field alongside our employees and project teams—coaching crews, conducting jobsite safety reviews, supporting project planning, and helping our teams prepare for high-risk and critical work.

His role goes beyond compliance. It is to coach, train, plan, and provide our employees and project partners with an experienced safety resource when it matters most.

PLANNING BEFORE WE WORK

We believe the safest work starts before the first tool comes out.

Safety is integrated into our project planning through daily pre-task planning, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), site-specific safety planning, coordination with project teams, equipment inspections, and evaluation of upcoming high-risk and critical activities.

When work presents increased risk, our teams identify the hazards, develop the plan, coordinate with the appropriate people, and establish effective controls before work begins.

CIM works collaboratively with general contractors, construction managers, owners, and their safety professionals to understand project-specific requirements and integrate them into our work. Our goal is not simply to meet the safety expectations of a project, but to be an active safety partner throughout it.

TRAINING OUR PEOPLE

A strong safety culture requires more than rules. It requires employees who understand the work, recognize hazards, and have the knowledge and confidence to perform their work safely and speak up when conditions change.

CIM invests in continuous safety education and hands-on training appropriate to the work our employees perform. Training includes OSHA 10- and 30-hour, CPR/First Aid/AED, fall protection, confined space, HAZWOPER, lockout/tagout, electrical safety and NFPA 70E, arc-flash awareness, aerial and mobile elevated work platforms, forklift and material handling, excavation and trenching, silica awareness, respiratory protection, fire prevention, and rigging and signaling, along with equipment- and task-specific training.

Training is reinforced through weekly toolbox talks, daily pre-task planning, jobsite coaching, formal safety meetings, equipment inspections, and ongoing hazard-recognition training. Specialized training is provided based on an employee’s trade, responsibilities, and the hazards associated with the work being performed.

Our approach emphasizes coaching and continuous improvement. We want our employees asking questions, sharing concerns, recognizing changing conditions, and involving our safety resources whenever additional planning or expertise is needed.

SAFETY AT EVERY LEVEL

Safety at CIM is not the responsibility of one person or one department.

Our safety team extends throughout the company—from ownership and leadership to our office staff, project teams, field supervisors, foremen, and tradespeople.

This company-wide involvement creates a direct connection between what is happening in the field and the people responsible for supporting our projects. Concerns can be communicated quickly, lessons learned can be shared throughout the organization, and improvements can be implemented across our operations.

We encourage open communication at every level. Our employees are expected to ask questions, identify concerns, stop when conditions change, and involve our safety leadership before beginning work when additional planning is needed.

Everyone has a role. Everyone has a voice. Everyone is accountable.

STRONG INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS

CIM maintains active relationships with leading construction, mechanical, electrical, and sheet metal industry organizations, including Master Builders of Iowa (MBI), Mechanical Contractors Association of Iowa (MCAI), Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA), National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), and Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA).

We also partner with Holmes Murphy on safety and risk management. Together, these relationships provide CIM access to industry expertise, training resources, best practices, emerging safety guidance, and additional perspectives that help us continually evaluate and strengthen our safety program.

Combined with our internal safety leadership and field involvement, these partnerships help us stay current as regulations, technology, equipment, project requirements, and industry risks continue to evolve.
